“It takes nothing away from a human to be kind to an animal.” - Joaquin Phoenix
Yes, you guessed it right! This blog is going to expound upon sustainable wear. I am sure that all of you have heard about going vegan when it comes to diet. However, today I’m going to shed some light on Veganism in the fashion industry.

Veganism is an active trend that has risen rapidly in the last few years and most of us admire it from the bottom of our hearts. However, it might feel like a little too intricate of a step to give up not only the delicious chicken nuggets but also cheese and chocolates? Yes, there are substitutes, but who are we kidding? It is still a difficult job (so, kudos to everyone who adheres to this diet)! This prevents a lot of us from even beginning to do our part for nature! So, I realized something which I want to share with all of you. You definitely do not have to be the BEST at saving the world because every drop of water makes up the ocean and is equally important. Today, let's take a glimpse at how can we play our part in supporting our pulchritudinous ecosystem.
Apart from the more accommodating dietary alterations, we can moderate our lifestyle as well. Yes, just a few choices here and there and BAM! We made a colossal difference that we did not even consider before. It is high time to talk about the alternative of vegan leather, also known as faux leather and false leather. Yes, you heard it right, the leather that is vegan! Sounds like a paradox, doesn’t it?
Let me introduce you to this wonderful creation. Vegan leather can be produced from a wide range of sustainable materials such as tree cork, mushroom, some organic fruit wastes, recycled plastic waste, and so on (basically anything from your kitchen). These days amongst the pandemic, many universities are giving their fashion students the assignment of creating vegan leather at home. The fashion department of the University of Queensland and Scientists from the Edge discovered the technology of employing kombucha cellulose to convert it into usable leather. Yes, it is convenient and sustainable. With a synthetic leather market currently valued at $25 billion, the concept of vegan leather is spreading by the day, and by the end of this blog, even you would be convinced enough to contribute to it.
However, as consumers, you do not have to be bothered with the technicalities of vegan leather. What you do need to know though is that how does it benefit you. Faux leather is a lot cheaper than the real leather products as synthesizing from organic materials is much cheaper than attaining and manufacturing real leather. Moreover, there is this beautiful feeling of satisfaction that you take to the bed with yourself as you chose to play a part in enhancing the ecosystem. It is also vital to not let the environmental impacts of real leather slip our minds. Transforming skin into leather uses and releases toxic wastes containing acids, sulfides, lime, etc. The tannery wastes are a nightmare as they are mostly dumped into our pious water bodies or land, making them both acidic. And most importantly, it saves the animals from the agonizing butchery for the mere luxury of humans.
The reason that many of you have already heard about this concept is that the need for this trend hasn’t gone unnoticed by influencers, celebrities, and designers across the world. Stella McCartney started her luxurious line with vegan products. Other luxury brands that have emerged over the years with these products are Nanushka, Eco-intimates, Leticia Credidio, Cult of Coquette, etc. Even Tesla came up with faux leather for car seats! These brands are persevering to remove the stigma that animal leather is “luxurious”. The haute couture of these brands gave every other brand a tough competition. Now let me ask you. Would you prefer the animal carcass marching down the ramp when there are equally fashionable outfits available that contributed to the betterment of our planet?
We here at Savelo, proudly accept that all our outfits are sustainable! We strongly believe that our Mother Nature deserves each of our hands to keep holding it high. The manufacturing process is also personally monitored to ensure authenticity and precision. If you are purchasing from Savelo, you know that you have made the choice of an aware consumer and as a consumer, being aware is your biggest asset! Let’s join hands to fortify and support our planet!
